Mike Perham – Biography

Born: 16, March 1992 – Potters Bar, London.

Began sailing at the age of 7

2006/7: Sailed solo across the Atlantic between Gibraltar and Antigua in the 28 foot (8 metres) yacht Cheeky Monkey, completing the 3,500 mile crossing to Antigua on 3rd January to take the Guinness World Record

At 14, Mike Perham became the youngest person to sail solo across the Atlantic. At 17, he was in the record books again after becoming the youngest to sail solo around the world. In 2012, he capped that by becoming the youngest to both sail and drive solo around the Globe All that is left now is a solo flight, which he hopes to make in 2014, to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the world by air, land and sea.

In between, this 21 year-old adventurer has been inspiring thousands of people young and old ‘To Live their Dream’ and strive to achieve whatever they want from life. The master storyteller regales audiences with stories of horrendous weather in the Southern Ocean when 50knot winds and 50ft high seas saw his open 50 yacht reach speeds up to 28 knots. His yacht was knocked down and damaged, forcing Mike to make emergency repairs up the mast to save his record breaking attempt.

Opponents questioned whether anyone with so little experience, let alone a minor, should be allowed to make such an attempt, but Mike pushed on and proved his critics wrong.

His latest adventure in a specially adapted Toyota Previa Spaceship took him through 20 countries from the UK through Europe, Russia, China, Laos, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, through the USA and back onto British soil. As an ambassador for the international disaster relief charity ShelterBox he made special stops in Thailand, China and New Zealand, to support aid relief programmes. He set out to raise £1 for every mile he travelled for the Charity.

"What an inspirational figure Mike is. He has achieved more as a teenager than most of us can achieve in a lifetime!"
